We are concerned about our impact on the environment and because of this...

ALL our waste cardboard and office paper is collected and sent for recycling or re-used in the store.

Our waste polythene is either reused in packing or collected and recycled.

Our Carrier Bags are BIO-DEGRADEABLE and our store lighting is low energy.

Where appropriate we re-use envelopes, cardboard and other packaging in our mail order deliveries, so we hope you don't mind !

We encourage our suppliers to be 'green' and this also influences our choice of supplier.

We love the outdoors

Living and working in the Lake District, we make most of it whenever we can. Between us we have a wide range of geographical experience from the Scottish Munro’s to hiking the local Fairfield Horseshoe, base-camping at Everest and running mountain marathons.

We hike, bike, canoe, camp, campervan, climb, ski, swim, triathlon, fell-run, Nordic walk and chase sticks!

Pete Kelly is qualified in mountain leadership, expedition safety and planning, canoeing, sailing and outdoor studies. Pete is also an experienced top level Nordic Walking fitness coach and trainer.

Andrea Tucker is a club fell- runner, keen hiker, occasional skier (it's the expense!), cyclist and very scared open water swimmer.

Aidan Robson (Sales) - A great asset to Head to the Hills, and to his future career as a school teacher. He runs, hikes and swims, when his girlfriend pushes him. Aidan can often be found shepherding Duke of Edinburgh groups around the Northern Fells.

Michael (MM) (Sales) - MM is the shop's little 'pocket rocket' often found zooming around at hyper speed, if not literally then he will be in his head! MM is a member of the Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team, I think they use him mainly to 'talk' crag fast people down.

Boot (Shop dog) - the official customer ‘greeter’, top salesdog. keen fell-runner and ball chaser!
