Boots Blog - Diary of a shop dog

Boot’s Blog, 3 February 2010-02-03

It’s snowing hard in Ambleside right now. We haven’t had a decent dump of freshies since my last posting so this weekend should be another corker for all us winter hill walkers and climbers.

Remember that Head to the Hills hire walking crampons and ice axes at very reasonable rates and we have a full range of instep crampons, pavement crampons and dual traction snow grabbers on offer in the shop and on the site.

Team these up with our price-busting Leki deals for the ultimate in security on steep and slippy ground. Call my human help-line for more on snow conditions and hire availability... 015394 33826

See you on the fell!

Boots Blog, Winter Walking Heaven - 03 January 2010.

As a new blanket of snow wraps around the fells and ruddy cheeked hikers head to the hills, my paws twitch in anticipation and I catch myself staring out at the hill tops – dreaming. The day clears and reveals a perfect alpine vista... and I’m stuck in the shop, greeting Head to the Hills customers... can’t wait till play time.

Only a few hours to go and me and the humans can catch the last of the light and crunch up our nearest fells. They are already geared up in Helly Hansen baselayer and Icepeak Softshell Trousers, and look just as impatient as I am to enjoy this winter walking heaven. Roll on, the bell...

Boots Blog, New Years Day 2010

Happy New Year Boot’s bloggers! All the best for 2010 from your furry fell friend... Thanks to all our customers who have braved floods and snowfall to come and see us in Ambleside; we hope you’re still enjoying the perfect winter walking conditions we’ve been enjoying as well as the bargains to be had in the Head to the Hills Outdoor Clothing Sale.

We’ll look forward to seeing you all again throughout 2010, both in the shop and online. Remember to wrap up and stay safe in these winter conditions and pack an extra biscuit for us dogs!

See you on the fell, I’m back off to the snow picnic – Mmm, hot soup and cheese butties...

Boots Blog – Cumbria floods; news from the front. November 2009-11-22

Me and my faithful human had to go the extra mile to get the web orders out during the devastating floods that have hit Cumbria this week. At the height of the flooding all roads into Ambleside were cut off for 24 hours causing a halt to all business as emergency services did their thing in grand style (well done lads & lasses!).

The Head to the Hills web orders had to go out in Yukon style by canoe as all operations shut down in the village. Apologies go out to customers who have experienced delays in receiving their orders but they’ll be with you soon – just got to shoot these rapids...

Winter Walkies. Running on Loughrigg Fell. November 2009.

Dark night, biting winds. Better to be curled up by the hearth than out on the fell; but we head out because we know how good it feels to catch the dying embers of the day just as we reach the top. It’s not so bad once the climbing starts and we reach equilibrium with what we’re wearing, the effort we put in and the wild advances of the odd squalls coming straight at us from Great Langdale.
